RIP Peter Boyle

This is a few days late, and this blog is usually never serious, but I just wanted YOFFO! to pay respect to Peter Boyle who past away on the 12th. Many people just talk about him on Everyone Loves Raymond and Young Frankenstein, but my favorite movie of his was Where the Buffalo Roam. This was a movie based off the book by Hunter S. Thompson. It starred Bill Murray(as Hunter) and Peter as his lawyer. What a great movie. He is also the only reason I sometimes watch Everyone Loves Raymond.

Sorry South Carolina Idiots, Borat is Bigger Than You!

A judge rejected a request by two fraternity brothers to block the DVD release of the hit spoof movie "Borat."

West Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Joseph S. Biderman also refused to order the removal of a scene that includes the two men, who claim they had been duped into misbehaving on camera.

Biderman issued his two-page decision on Friday after hearing arguments the previous day.

The South Carolina fraternity brothers sued November 9, claiming they were tricked into making racist and sexist remarks to British comedian Sacha Baron Cohen in "Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan."

In one scene of the mockumentary, Cohen as rowdy Kazakh journalist Borat hangs out with three men in a motor home and watches the Pamela Anderson-Tommy Lee sex tape. One of the three men did not participate in the lawsuit.

The fraternity brothers claim the filmmakers got them drunk before getting them to sign release forms agreeing to appear in the film. Their names do not appear in the lawsuit.

The film "made plaintiffs the objects of ridicule, humiliation, mental anguish, and emotional and physical distress," the lawsuit claims.

A trial date for the lawsuit, which seeks unspecified monetary damages, has not been set.

A Scanner Darkly is # 15 of the top DVDs of the Year in Rolling Stone

Rollingstone just named A Scanner Darkly number fifteen in their top DVDs of 2006. I didn't realize it was out yet, maybe it isn't. A Scanner Darkly was definately the best movie I saw all year. It was even better than Borat and Tenacious D. The movie starring Keanu Reeves, Robert Downey Jr., Woody Harrilson, if a trippy drug filled story in animated form, unlike anything you have ever seen! By the way I am sure I butchered the actors names, so don't bring that up! Anyways you all should check out this DVD! Plenty of Radiohead and Thom Yorke too in this baby!

Thom Yorke's Performance on From The Basement LEAKED by iTUNES?

That is right people, the performance, and the entire show "From The Basement" featuring performances by the White Stripes, Four Tet, and of course Thom Yorke was accidently put up for sale on iTunes yesterday! Hours later the people at iTunes realized they made a huge mistake and took it off as it is not suppose to come out until the 18th. Of course people downloaded it and you can find it online now! I of course have heard/seen the performance by Thom Yorke and it is incredible. Thom plays two new Radiohead tracks on the piano! If I were you I would check the tracks out they are incredible. Make sure you puchase the From The Basement show from iTunes when it comes out because we all need to support our boy Nigel Godrich. Also make sure you support us, if you know what I'm saying. Download the latest episode of the YOFFO! Podcast. There is a link to the right or you can go on iTunes and find it if you search YOFFO. You can also check it out at podcastalley.com and vote for us haha.

Grammy Nominations Pt.1 Recond of the Year

Well as previously reported here the Grammy nominations came out today. As usual they are only about 35% on the money. Then again this is a pop event so you can't expect those who are not somewhat popular to get a nom. Now everyday for the next week or so I am going to post the nominations per category that I am familiar with. Each day I will also put (who should win, who probably will win, and who shouldn't be there if there is one) I will only use one of each. The first one we are going to cover is Record of the Year.

Record Of The Year
(Award to the Artist and to the Producer(s), Recording Engineer(s) and/or Mixer(s), if other than the artist.)

  • Be Without You
    Mary J. Blige
Bryan-Michael Cox, producer; Danny Cheung, Tal Herzberg & Dave "Hard-Drive" Pensado, engineers/mixers
    Track from: The Breakthrough
    [Geffen Records]

  • You're Beautiful
    James Blunt
Tom Rothrock, producer; Tom Rothrock & Mike Tarantino, engineers/mixers
    Track from: Back To Bedlam
    [Custard/Atlantic]

  • Not Ready To Make Nice *(shouldn't be there)
    Dixie Chicks
Rick Rubin, producer; Richard Dodd, Jim Scott & Chris Testa, engineers/mixers
Track from: Taking The Long Way
    [Open Wide/Columbia]

  • Crazy *(should win, probably will win)
    Gnarls Barkley
Danger Mouse, producer; Ben H. Allen, Danger Mouse & Kennie Takahashi, engineers/mixers
    Track from: St. Elsewhere
    [Downtown/Atlantic]

  • Put Your Records On
    Corinne Bailey Rae
Steve Chrisanthou, producer; Steve Chrisanthou & Jeremy Wheatley, engineers/mixers
    Track from: Corinne Bailey Rae
    [Capitol]
I was thinking about putting artists who should be nominated but that isn't fair to the masses haha.

Make sure you check out the YOFFO! Podcast!
Seeya'll tomorrow.

Grammy Nominations are being announced today

They, the voters, as usual, will nominate the worst people ever. The grammys, like every other American music awards is turning into a joke. But who know, maybe they will nominate some deserving artists. I will post the noms here after they are announced.

CHECK IT OUT TODAY!

From The Basement!!! Check this out!

From The Basement is an independently produced music series that will feature the most intimate live performances from the finest musicians on the planet.

From The Basement sets a new standard for music TV production. The debut show is beautifully filmed in high-definition at Maida Vale studios in London with the live sound by producer Nigel Godrich. From The Basement has no host and no studio audience, instead the artist and their performance take centre stage.

The first episode is very special. From The Basement launches with Thom Yorke on the piano exclusively performing songs from the new Radiohead album, alongside incredible performances from The White Stripes and an improvised collaboration between Four Tet’s Kieran Hebden and genius drummer Steve Reid.

Reflecting From The Basement’s unique credentials, each episode’s performances will be available via download only, to allow repeated viewings. The first From The Basement will launch on iTunes and www.fromthebasement.tv on the 18th December.

The second show will be available for download in February 2007. Register at www.fromthebasement.tv for the latest news on forthcoming shows.

The trailer for the first show can be viewed at www.fromthebasement.tv

Thom Yorke says: “From The Basement was exciting because it came from the desire to cut out the crap that lies between the music and the viewer. To get plugged straight into the mains. No producer director egos messing it up. The highlight for me was listening to Kieren and Steve Reid jamming as the tape started rolling.”

Jack White III remarks: “I don’t think a music program has recorded a performance on analog reel to reel in thirty years. It was beautifully filmed, and the sound quality makes a performance on a regular TV talk show sound like a wax cylinder recording. No host. Thank God.”

Kieran Hebden (aka Fourtet) says of the project: "Everything was done to capture the music in the best possible way, rather than just to make snappy TV. It's not a live gig, it’s something different – seeing musicians in a studio setting, not worrying about the audience. What a positive thing. Heavy analogue sounds, wonderfully filmed picture and a chance to see music performed in a way that is rarely seen."

Nigel Godrich of From The Basement comments: “I’m a sad fan trying to bring the magic back to music TV.”

Dilly Gent of From The Basement explains: “I just want to see artist’s doing what they do best...perform. Not being an incidental feature in some magazine show and not being forced into embarrassed conversation.”
